Andy Warhol

Mao , 1977

Rare offset lithograph exhibition poster on rag paper. Unframed.
37 × 24 inches

This rare lithographic poster depicting one of Warhol's most iconic paintings of Chairman Mao, was created in an unknown but very limited edition in 1977. It is a true Warhol collectible because it was created during Warhol's lifetime, on the occasion of the Andy Warhol exhibition at the prestigious Hokin Gallery in Chicago - well known in the era for exhibiting blue chip art.  The show opened in 1977, the year the Cultural Revolution in China officially ended following Mao’s death in 1976. Today, Warhol's Mao paintings, including the one depicted in this poster, are worth tens of millions of dollars.  A gorgeous print - and a dazzling decorative item.
