The signed offset lithograph poster was created on the occasion of the Steinberg exhibition at the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden at the Smithsonian Institution from October 4 - November 26, 1978. The work has historic and unique provenance: it is hand signed and dated with a warm, handwritten inscription by the artist to "Al and Pauline" -- (Abram, "Al" Lerner and his wife Pauline Hanenberg;on) lower recto (front). Abram Lerner was the very first director of the Hirshhorn Museum of Art, who was a longtime advisor to its founder Joseph Hirshhorn. Steinberg gifted this poster as a gesture of gratitude to the powerful curator and director who made the Steinberg show at the Hirshhorn happen. See below for this revealing obituary about the incredible of Al Lerner:https://www.latimes.com/archives/la-xpm-2007-nov-07-me-passings7.s2-story.htmlThis is a one-of a kind collectors item with such cool provenance and a wonderful personal inscription.
