Robert Indiana

Hirshhorn Museum & Sculpture Garden Opening Exhibition, 1974

Lithograph. Hand signed and numbered
32 × 26 inches
Edition 4/100
Unframed
In 1974, legendary Pop artist Robert Indiana was commissioned by the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden to design the poster celebrating the grand opening and inaugural installation at the museum. While the poster itself was an open edition - only a very small number - 100 were printed on lithographic paper (instead of poster paper) and hand signed and numbered by Robert Indiana. This is one of them! It is boldly signed by Robert Indiana in graphite pencil, and numbered 4/100. Par excellence - this signed, numbered Robert Indiana offset lithograph poster, commemorating the opening of the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden - is a terrific piece of 20th Century Modern art history and a wonderful example of super rare Pop Art ephemera from the 1970s - one of the most influential eras.
