This poignant 1957 oil and thick impasto painting, first sold by the Martha Jackson gallery. The photos don't do justice to the texture of this poignant Abstract Expressionist painting. In original vintage frame; signed on the front and bearing the artist's private stamp with home address on the verso.

American, 20th Century abstract expressionist; born Pennsylvania, worked New York, studied and exhibited in Paris, exhibited Stable Gallery, NYC, founded artists cooperative gallery in lower Manhattan, emphasis on the color and materiality of paint; mural at the New School, NYC. Norman Carton was a painter’s painter. He had a devoted life to Education and lecturing in the Arts as well as a large exhibition history.He was in more than 70 group exhibitions and had more than 20 0ne-man exhibitions. He was awarded numerous awards, prizes and fellowships.
