H13-7 is an edition of the original painting CP121. Mill Bay, Salcome which is part of the ’Coast Paintings’ series. Created in 2019, ’Coast Paintings’ are colourful action paintings which convey the energy, excitement and change experienced by the seaside in winter, reflected in the works being named after British coastal locations. The ’Coast Paintings’ began their life as grey canvases which were laid on the floor of Hirst’s studio while he painted his acclaimed Cherry Blossoms series.
This edition is part of the 'Where the Land Meets the Sea' series, which also consists of artworks taken from Hirst's latest series ’Sea Paintings’ and ’Seascapes
More about Mill Bay, Salcombe:
Set across the water from Salcombe and just south of East Portlemouth is the delightful little cove of Mill Bay. This sandy beach is nestled within the woodlands of the South Devon Area Of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB). From the beach here there are fantastic views across the azure waters of the Salcombe estuary to the town and countryside beyond.
At low tide the beach stretches north to East Portlemouth beach and there are plenty of rockpools exposed. Along with fine golden sand and the calm estuary waters Mill Bay is a popular family beach.
The coastline here is some of the most spectacular and beautiful in Devon. From here the walk around to Prawle Point (the most southerly point in Devon) is a mix of rugged cliffs, rolling countryside and hidden coves.
