ANDY WARHOL, Marilyn, Leo Castelli Invitation, Signed & Dedicated to Andy's last boyfriend 1981, Silkscreen in Announcement Card (Hand Signed & Dedicated)
Description
Own an incredible piece of Pop Art history! This is a one-of-a-kind opportunity. How often does one find a new work by Andy Warhol, a silkscreen invitation depicting one of the most iconic images he ever created - Marilyn Monroe - that Warhol personally gifted to his very last boyfriend -- a piece that has not been seen since the 1980s and has never come to market until 2017? This is it. This silkscreen invitation was published in an unnumbered edition of approx. 250 -- but Warhol only signed ones for people he knew. This is one of the few, demonstrably authentic signed Marilyn invitations. It is an announcement for the exhibition "Andy Warhol: A Print Retrospective 1963-1981," held at Leo Castelli Gallery, New York, Based on the artist's same-titled suite of screenprints from 1967. See Feldman 22-31. But what makes this particular piece extraordinary is its impeccable and irrefutable provenance. It was hand signed and dedicated by Andy Warhol to his last boyfriend on earth - Jon Gould. Gould was a New England educated former Vice President of Corporate Communications Paramount Pictures. But his claim to fame was as Andy Warhol's last boyfriend. This work has impressive provenance. It was acquired from the widely publicized sale of the collection of Jon Gould - -a treasure trove of valuable gifts and art works by Warhol, Haring and Basquiat to Gould - that had not been seen in more than a quarter of a century. This is one of the works from that impressive sale - a must have for true Warhol and Haring fans! Below are links to two of the many articles about the Jon Gould collection:

The present work is a must-have for serious Andy Warhol fans and collectors. An amazing conversation piece. Unframed - as it was found in Mrs. Gould's Amesbury Massachusetts attic.
