Extremely rare, early hand made invitation to book launch of "In the Bottom of My Garden" Serendipity 3, ca. 1954
Rare invitation designed by Warhol on rice paper
Plate signed
This is an incredibly rare, delicate and historic invitation, printed on thin rice paper, to an opening at Manhattan's famed Serendipity 3 (22 East 60th Street) to view Andy Warhol's new picture book "In the Bottom of My Garden." This undated vintage invitation is so incredibly scarce, that the only other one we've ever seen is in the Warhol Museum itself in Pittsburgh. (see photos of that installation). Although most galleries date the picture book to circa 1956, the Warhol Museum dates this Serendipity 3 invitation to the book launch back to 1954 - when Warhol began hanging out at Serendipity's. An amazingly scarce, original piece of Warhol ephemera; a valuable collectors' item. Nobody you know will have this!
Acquired as part of an auction with unpublished original Warhol negatives. A treasure trove; a one-off find.
This work has been elegantly framed in a museum quality gold rimmed frame under UV plexiglass.
