Hand signed by both Warhol and Abzug in felt-tip pen and black ink, right margin. Warhol's portrait illustration of New York Congresswoman Bella Abzug (1920-1998) graced the October 6, 1977 cover of Rolling Stone magazine. Abzug was the first Jewish woman elected to the House of Representatives, as well as an early gay rights activist. She ran for the US Senate in 1976, after her congressional term, but was defeated by Daniel Patrick Moynihan and was unsuccessful in a bid to be the Mayor of New York City in 1977. Warhol's portrait illustration of Abzug graced the October 6, 1977 cover of Rolling Stone magazine. This poster features Warhol's multicolor image of Bella Abzug donning her signature hat, that graced the October 6, 1977 cover of Rolling Stone magazine. Bella Abzug was an acquaintance of Warhol and attended his events with actress Shirley MacLaine. The Polaroid test shots she sat for in preparation for this magazine cover have also been sold at auction.
