This is the latest work by New York based Japanese artist Yookan Westfield, who is well known and beloved for her exquisite paintings of cats. Yookan truly loves cats and is our favorite cat painter in the world. The present work was exhibited in the Summer of 2022 at the Prince Street Gallery in New York City.

In 2020, Yookan was chosen by art critic David Cohen, editor and publisher of Artcritical.com, as one of the winners of the "Pets of the Pandemic" art competition to benefit Best Friends Animal Society. This unique, oil on canvas is hand signed on the lower recto, and bears a label on the verso, handwritten and signed by the artist. For art collectors who are serious cat lovers, Yookan's cat paintings are a must-have. She already had an almost cult-like following in Japan, where she exhibited widely in galleries and museums, before she emigrated to the United States on a genius visa, accorded because of her extraordinary artistic talent. Westfield continues to exhibit regularly in New York and Japan. The present work, "Orange Cat's Thoughts", celebrating the artist's own cat name Orange (a big tomcat), who has served as the artists companion and muse throughout the pandemic.

Westfield studied painting at the New York Studio School of Painting & Sculpture under the Dean of the School, renowned painter, Graham Nickson, and she received her MFA from Musashino Art University in Tokyo and her BFA Kanazawa Art University, Japan. This is a gorgeous painting that would look beautiful in any home. The cat-loving collector who acquires it will be delighted.

Hand signed on the lower right recto (front) as well as hand signed, handwritten label affixed to the back.
