This work is by distinguished African American artist William T. Williams. The title "Fifty Seven Thirty One" refers to the year 5731 in the Jewish calendar, which corresponds with our Roman calendar year 1971. It was commissioned by the Jewish Museum. (The edition number 144, has mystical meaning, as it is a multiple of 12 indicating the highest emphasis on God ruling through human agency. ) Price reflects condition report.
