This very desirable silkscreen by Wes Lang was produced for The Grateful Dead and features many of their motifs in a signature style that is now very well known. The Native American chief skull is an often recurring figure in Wes Lang's work - one of the many iconic American stock images Lang has in his repertoire. Not to be taken literally, Lang appropriates this imagery and uses it in narratives of his own creation, apart from historical precedents. Lang likes to "take American history and then completely ignore it. I come at it visually, taking images and telling my own story." The present work reproduces Wes Lang's original 1990 painting. The artwork depicts Wes Lang's style with Grateful Dead imagery around the Indian Skull center and small trademark details.
