This hand signed and inscribed original, unique geometric ink drawing of Lines in Four Different Directions is by legendary Minimalist/Conceptual master Sol Lewitt. The card bears the original stamps and postmark from Spoleto, Italy (zip code: 06049). (Sol Lewitt famously bought a house in Spoleto where he traveled often with his family - despite, as the story goes, never having learned much Italian. ) The verso of the card depicts Lewitt's work "Wall Drawing: Six Superimposed Geometric Figures", 1976, at Los Angeles County Museum of Art. (LACMA).  It is addressed to Dan Pope, a longtime CBS News cameraman and visual art lover who amassed an extraordinary well-recognized private collection of autographs and drawings from many well known artists including Lewitt. This was long before the era of Internet commerce, when only a rarefied group of true art fans were amassing these collections. Dan was one of them. Provenance is excellent as we acquired this work directly from the recipient - Dan Pope. Lewitt's Lines in Four Different Directions is one of his most iconic designs, and this unique, signed drawing is a highly collectible piece of historical ephemera from this Minimalist master.
