This powerful mid 1980s Sean Scully woodcut, published in a small edition of only 35, is elegantly framed in a hand made museum frame with UV plexiglass and is ready to hang. In fine condition.

 

ABOUT SEAN SCULLY

 

Irish-born American Sean Scully is a devoted abstract painter and printmaker who finds inspiration in the sensual forms of the natural world. While his painterly style has transformed over his career, Scully’s consistent concern for assembling a sense of order in his shape-making mirrors his reflections on spiritual and mental harmony. Scully’s creations were featured at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York in a solo exhibition titled Sean Scully:Wall of Light (September 26, 2006–January 15, 2007). These images, inspired by the patterns of light and surfaces from Mayan stone walls are a continuation of Scully’s tradition of constructing rectangular grid-like forms, wedged beside one another, in an attempt to “give light a feeling of body… The words light and spirit are interchangeable in my opinion. I’m trying to capture something that has a classical stillness and at the same time has enough emotion or dissonance to create an unresolved quality…. ”

Scully’s international solo exhibition venues include the Harvard University Art Museum (1999); the National Gallery of Australia, Canberra, Australia (2004); Staatliche Museum, Kassel, Germany (2005); as well as frequent shows at Galerie Lelong, Paris, France. His artwork is in the collections of the Museum of Modern Art, the Guggenheim Museum, New York, the National Gallery of Art and the Smithsonian American Art Museum, Washington, D.C., the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco, the National Gallery of Australia, the Tate Gallery, London, the Irish Museum of Modern Art in Dublin, and many other private and public collections worldwide. In 2006 Scully donated eight of his paintings to the Hugh Lane Gallery in Dublin, which opened an extension in May 2006 with a room dedicated to Scully’s works.
