A charming design on this relatively scarce 1967 print created as a fundraiser for the literary magazine "The Paris Review". In 1964, The Paris Review launched its print series, with original works by twenty-three major contemporary artists - including Saul Steinberg. The series was underwritten by Drue Heinz, a literary philanthropist and past publisher of the magazine, and directed by the American painter Jane Wilson, who also contributed a print. The MoMA purchased a full set for their permanent collection in 1967, and the series, which has since grown to include five dozen original works, has been exhibited internationally. Steinberg's contribution is titled as an interrogatory,"The Paris Review?" features a charming cat in his inimitable style. This very image was also used in the cover of the actual literary publication THE PARIS REVIEW NO. 136 FALL 1995, called "Whither Mirth" - devoted exclusively to comedy. An image of the journal cover is also included here and as a special bonus, we will give a complimentary copy of that journal to the buyer of this charming print.
