Artist Statement (Story of the Artwork):
"This painting is of my beloved pet, Elby.  He is a 2 year old Shih Tzu mix.  We rescued him from the ASPCA when he was just 4 months old.  Elby is my Emotional Support Animal and has always provided me with a great sense of comfort, especially during these uncertain times.  I teach art at an elementary school in Harlem.  Our last day in the school building was March 13.  Waking up to teach young children through a computer screen was so challenging, but sitting down in the early mornings with Elby at my side made the days a little easier.  My students would ask for him and make art for him.  I was grateful when I had time to take him for mid-day walks between lessons as he was my only reason to get fresh air.  This illustration shows Elby sitting on our favorite grassy field at Inwood Hill Park.  Just watching him enjoy life, completely unaware of the global pandemic, fills me with great joy and a sense of hope.."  - Sara Lauth
