This dazzling, silkscreen Purim: The Four Facets of Esther (II) was created by Robert Indiana, in the late 1960s, one of the most desirable eras. It was commissioned by the Jewish Museum in New York for its annual fundraising celebration in conjunction with the festive and colorful Jewish holiday of Purim. The subject for this print was taken from the Book of Esther in the Old Testament. This work is pencil signed, titled numbered from the limited edition of only 60. It was created in the late Sixties, one of the most influential eras in the Pop Art movement. Indiana silkscreens from the 1960s are especially desirable, and works from this edition are increasingly scarce, as so many are already in major museums and public collections. To consider that only 60 impressions were made more than half a century ago, it's extremely rare to find an edition on the market in such good shape. A true collectors item.
This uncommon print is fully referenced in the catalogue raisonne of Robert Indiana's prints, published by Susan Sheehan. [Sheehan, 36]
