Robert Indiana’s “LOVE” began as a simple Christmas card design for friends and has slowly become one of the most recognizable images in the art world. In the 1960s, Robert Indiana's LOVE image became a symbol for the "make love not war" counterculture movement. However, in the past 45 years, the LOVE symbol has transcended its original meaning to have even greater importance, both as an art historical trope and a global signifier. His technique is bold and visually stimulating, elevating simple text and colloquialisms in order to merge the personal and the public, the visual and the verbal. A miniature version of the sculpture that sits on the grounds of the Indianapolis Museum of Art, Indiana, this brushed aluminum paperweight commemorates the artist most iconic design.
