Louise Nevelson

Bicentennial Dawn, 1976

Photolithograph, silkscreen and gold foil on white wove paper. Signed, dated and numbered
35 × 25 in
88.9 × 63.5 cm
Edition 15/100

This silkscreen and photolithograph with gold foil overlay, signed and numbered from the limited edition of only 100, depicts Louise Nevelson's monumental public sculpture "Bicentennial Dawn" commissioned for the Philadelphia Courthouse.  The sculpture was commissioned by the US Government's General Services Administration (GSA) "Art in Architecture" program in celebration of the country's 200th birthday. In the 1970s, the  GSA was active in promoting public art in America like this iconic Louise Nevelson work, but these days it is better known for its administrator's rather ignominious role in the 2020 Presidential election.
