"Variant II" (1966) is from the well known "Ten Variants" portfolio by Josef Albers (German, 1888-1976). Pencil signed and numbered 17 from the edition of 200. This break away imagery from the usual squares is said to be influenced by Albers' visit to Mexico and his seeing the adobe houses which he has translated into this horizontal imagery in a variation of sizes, shapes and colors. This work pencil signed and numbered screenprint on Rives BFK Paper. Unframed and in fine condition. This was a gift of Josef Albers to the German abstract painter Adolf Fleischmann, who is considered a precursor of Op Art. It was acquired from the Estate of Adolf Fleischmann.
