Jasper Johns

Dayton's Gallery 12 - The Minneapolis Institute of Arts Exhibition (hand signed, dated and inscribed by Jasper Johns), 1971-1977

Limited edition vintage poster. Uniquely signed, dated and inscribed
29 1/2 × 22 1/4 × 1 inches

This is the very rare original 1971 limited edition offset lithograph poster which is a true collectors item when hand signed and inscribed by Jasper Johns as is the present work. This print was created on the occasion of the Jasper Johns exhibition at Dayton's Gallery 12 and the Minneapolis Institute of Arts in March of 1971. This was actually printed on lithographic paper making it especially desirable. The venerable Dayton's Gallery in Minneapolis, began as a department store gallery, but soon distinguished itself for hosting exhibitions by Jasper Johns, Ken Noland, Jules Olitski, Frank Stella, Larry Poons, Ellsworth Kelly, Robert Rauschenberg, Robert Indiana and many others - becoming known as a Midwestern US cultural powerhouse. Dayton's also famously collaborated with Leo Castelli to promote and exhibit Castelli's stable of artists, and it also collaborated with cultural institutions like the Minneapolis Museum of Art, which collaborated with Dayton's on this Jasper Johns exhibition. A marvelous historical artifact for fans, dealers, collectors, scholars and followers of Jasper Johns and American Pop Art of the 1960s and 1970s; extremely rare when hand signed.

Hand-signed by artist, Hand signed, inscribed and dated 1977 in ink by Jasper Johns on the front

Good vintage condition; not examined outside of original vintage frame, but there's overall age toning to sheet and some waviness but otherwise a very good impression.
