provenance

A rare and highly collectible piece of art historical ephemera with superb provenance! The O.K. Harris Gallery was founded by Ivan C. Karp, a protégé of the legendary Leo Castelli, who was instrumental in launching the careers of Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein, Robert Rauschenberg, Tom Wesselmann and John Chamberlain. This historical gallery closed in June 2014.
This vintage, pine artist's palette-form smoking set bears a countersunk gold-tone lighter and glass ashtray. It features a color photograph of the O.K. Harris Gallery façade, visible below ashtray. Includes yellow, red, and blue paint daubs, rubber stamp imprinted "Greetings From The O.K. Harris Gallery," and a felted bottom. The work retains manufacturer printed label "Made in U.S.A. by Eric P. Staller, 31 Walker Street, New York City, NY 10013." Contained within original box. We've never seen another one of these; obviously commissioned directly from O.K. Harris. Acquired from the collection of art historians Jacob and Aviva Bal Teshuva.
