Description

Hand signed in black ink and dedicated "To Barbara & Marvin...Best Wishes! Ed Ruscha". Marvin Davis was a legendary Hollywood mogul and one-time owner of 20th Century FOX Studios and Ruscha collector  - and the artist personally dedicates this book to Marvin and his wife Barbara. This stunning hardback monograph was published in 2000 on the occasion of a major traveling Ruscha exhibition jointly organized by the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, Washington, D.C. and the Museum of Modern Art, Oxford UK - and traveling to many other museums nationally and internationally.  The book is in very good condition and it the cover is protected by mylar. This makes a superb gift for any Ruscha fan or collector - especially with the distinctive inscription and provenance.

Published to accompany an exhibition of a full retrospective selection of paintings and art books from Los Angeles-based contemporary artist, Ed Ruscha. As new in an as new dust jacket. Marvin Davis, whose name frequently appeared on any given ‘Richest People’ list, was a world-class dealmaker, best known for buying and selling Twentieth Century Fox film studios (to Rupert Murdoch in the 1980s), the Beverly Hills Hotel, and the Pebble Beach Co., a seaside California resort that included four of the country’s best-known golf courses, amassed most of his considerable fortune (near five billion at the time of his death in 2004 at the age of 79) from the oil and gas industries, and from real estate. He and his wife, Barbara, were also generous philanthropists, establishing the Children’s Diabetes Foundation in 1977 after their daughter Dana was diagnosed with the disease.
