Description

David Hockney

LA County Museum of Art Promotional Bag, 1988

Silkscreen Paper Bag

10 1/2 × 13 1/2 inches

This uncommon David Hockney shopping bag was created, with the artist's collaboration/approval, exclusively for a VIP promotional event on the occasion of the David Hockney's epic retrospective exhibition at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Los Angeles, CA (LACMA) on 4 Feb - 24 Apr 1988. (The show traveled to the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, NY, 11 Jun - 14 Aug 1988, and finally to the Tate Modern, London, UK. 26 Oct 1988 - 3 Jan 1989.)

The exact number of these bags that were created is unknown/undisclosed but they were done as a one-off promotion for VIP supporters at a gala event. (there was also a bag created for the Metropolitan Museum retrospective.) The David Hockney LACMA shopping bag was not marketed to the general public.

The artwork depicted on the bag is "David Hockney, Mulholland Drive: The Road to the Studio, 1980."
