To celebrate Christo and Jeanne-Claude’s exhibition at the Serpentine Galleries and their first outdoor public art project in the UK, Christo produced this signed print about The London Mastaba.
The London Mastaba captured the world’s imagination during the summer months of 2018. Comprising 7,506 coloured barrels floating on the Serpentine lake in Hyde Park, the temporary sculpture was 20 meters high x 30 meters wide (at the 60° slanted walls) x 40 meters long.
This hand-signed print by the artist, depicts one of Christo’s collages for The London Mastaba which was featured in the Serpentine Galleries exhibition from 19 June to 9 September 2018. Christo’s original preparatory drawings and collages are fundamental to his process of conceiving and developing works in public spaces. Christo also sells his original works to fund the temporary art projects. During the lead up to the completion of the sculpture, he created 50 works on paper, often combining photography by Wolfgang Volz with a variety of media and technical data. Strikingly detailed and precise, this new print of a collage captures the monumentality, practicality and vision of Christo’s temporary intervention on the Serpentine lake.
