Description

Here is a unique marvelous set of three complete, original vintage press kits from major US museums hosting retrospectives of works of Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein and Jasper Johns. These were made available exclusively to the media and are rarely found all together in the open market!

Each kit is in a binder, that, when folded measures 12 x 9 but opens up to reveal brochures, press releases, magazines and even a bookmark. Included in this rare lot are:

1. Press Kit for Andy Warhol Retrospective, February 6 to May 2, 1989, the Museum of Modern Art
2. Press Kit for: The Prints of Roy Lichtenstein, Organized by the National Gallery of Art, Washington DC, Los Angeles County Museum of Art and Dallas Museum of Art, October, 1994 through August 1995
3. Press Kit for Jasper Johns: A Retrospective, Museum of Modern Art, October 20, 1996-January 21, 1997

1. WARHOL PRESS KIT:
Press kit for the first major international traveling museum retrospective since Warhol's shocking and untimely death in 1987.
This Kit consists of an ivory colored presentation folder, with the MUSEUM OF MODERN ART logo embossed on the cover, left. Inside are:

LEFT HAND SIDE SLEEVE:
THE MODERN STAR, MOMA's 8 page "newspaper" with headlines and articles from the exhibition. Inside is a feature article announcing the exhibition, accompanied by other articles such as one entitled "Serial Imagery Seen in Warhol Retrospective" and "Factory, Fame and Fortune". The "Enquiring Reporter" section asks "What is Pop Art" and features REVEALING quotes on the subject byRobert Indiana, James Rosenquist, Tom Wesselmann and Andy Warhol.

TWO PAGE PRESS RELEASE ON MOMA LETTERHEAD AND TEXT "ANDY WARHOL: A RETROSPECTIVE" dated February 1989 addressed to Publishers, Editors and Writers from Jeanne Collins, Director of Public Information (loose; unstapled).
ONE PAGE PRESS RELEASE ON MOMA LETTERHEAD AND TEXT "ANDY WARHOL: A RETROSPECTIVE", entitled "SYMPOSIUM AND VIDEOTAPE COMPLEMENT ANDY WARHOL RETROSPECTIVE".
TWO PAGE PRESS RELEASE ON MOMA LETTERHEAD AND TEXT "ANDY WARHOL A RETROSPECTIVE" featuring lengthy biography of Kynaston McShine, organizer of the exhibition and senior curator in the Department of Painting and Sculpture at the Museum of Modern Art since 1980.
2. LICHTENSTEIN PRESS KIT:
Inside are 5 sets of stapled inserts on National Gallery of Art News Release letterhead. The first is entitled "Stunning Survey of Lichtenstein Prints Premieres at National Gallery of Art, October 30, 1994 - January 8, 1995, and it has 4 pages. The second insert is entitled "Dots, Stripes, Strokes and Foils: Roy Lichtenstein's High-Tech Classicism", by Ruth Fine, also four pages. In the left hand sleeve is a list of Related Activities associated with the exhibition, including lectures, films, tours and family programs, etc. This is two pages.
And perhaps most important is a detailed 13 page Checklist of all the works in this exhibition.
