EXTREMELY RARE OFFSET LITHOGRAPH POSTER FROM ANDY WARHOL'S VERY FIRST POP ART  SHOW - EVER - OF CAMPBELL'S SOUP CAN PAINTINGS AT THE LEGENDARY FERUS GALLERY IN LOS ANGELES, 1962.

Ferus Gallery Director Irving Blum famously became the first dealer to offer Warhol a one-man show of his soup paintings. This show would be the first time Pop Art would be viewed in California. Warhol's "Pepper Pot Soup" is probably the most famous poster for the most famous show in art history. A bright, strong impression.  Natural folds (it was a promotional mailer) and unconditionally guaranteed authentic forever.

(Ferus was also the gallery that first sold Warhol's iconic "Elvis" paintings, most of which are in the permanent collection of major museums. The one Elvis from the Ferus gallery that came to market - for the first time in decades - recently sold at Sotheby's London for $34 million. )

This offset lithograph poster is printed on wove paper. Full margins. Fine, strong impression with bright colors. Condition: folds as issued: this was a promotional mailer for the Ferus Gallery. Extremely rare, original offset lithograph. Measures 10 inches (vertical) by 12.25 inches (horizontal).

For the most extensive coverage of the history and importance of this poster and its exhibition, please see Kirk Varnedoe's essay 'Campbell's Soup Cans, 1962' in Gagosian Gallery's 'Ferus,' 2002, pp. 44-52. This print is illustrated, full page, full color, on pg. 42. The exhibition painting upon which the poster is based is pictured on pg.129. Provenance: By repute, through John Altoon; Estate of a Private Collector, Pasadena, California. The importance of the Warhol exhibition at the Ferus Gallery and its related poster cannot be overemphasized. Moreover, the poster is exceedlingly rare.

Although the Archives of American Art at the Smithsonian has a total of 32 different Irving Blum and Ferus Gallery posters, it does not possess this poster. As Wikipedia states in its article on the Campbell's Soup Cans, "Warhol…showed the work on July 9th, 1962 in his first one-man gallery exhibition as a fine artist in the Ferus Gallery of Los Angeles, California. The exhibition marked the West Coast debut of pop art."

Unconditionally guaranteed authentic: NO questions; NO quibbles. Comes with a Certificate of Guarantee.
For true collectors of Warhol's prints and memorabilia, this iconic, truly historic poster from his first exhibition at Ferus is a must-have - more desirable and uncommon than many of his prints!

This rare piece has retailed for up to $20,000 in the past.
