Roy Lichtenstein
This is the original, very scarce 1969 silkscreen card printed by Multiples, Inc. It was later used by the Roy Lichtenstein Foundation as a holiday card - so there is no better provenance. However, to preserve its integrity, the Foundation did not deface, write on or amend this original vintage silkscreen which has no text inside. Instead, they added a removable fitted paper sleeve with printed text. The inside of the added sleeve reads:
Best Wishes for Happy Holidays and A Great New Year From All of Us at the Roy Lichtenstein Foundation
Dorothy Lichtenstein
Jack Cowart
Cassandra Lozano
Natasha Sigmund
Shelley Lee
Sarah Kornbluth
James dePasquale
At the bottom is the address, phone number and website of the Foundation. (see photos). And on the backside of this removable paper sleeve is explanatory text about the silkscreen card that reads:
"This silkscreen card was printed in 1969 by Multiples, Inc. based on Roy Lichtenstein's Moonscape Banner, 1966 (96 x 47 inches, applique felt) published by Multiples, Inc. in an edition of twenty."
On the original 1969 card itself (underneath the added sleeve, so not visible in the photos) is this original printed text with the artist's copyright logo: "Silk Screen from Banner by Roy Lichtenstein for Multiples Inc. 1969"
Makes a wonderful gift! A piece of Roy Lichtenstein history! Accompanied by Gallery issued Certificate of Guarantee.
