Robert Motherwell

Limited Edition Lithograph as Exhibition Catalogue Cover, Signed and Dedicated to Jacqueline Brody (Editor of the Print Collectors' Newsletter), 1974

Lithograph on Limited Edition Catalogue, Ink Signed and Dedicated

10 × 24 inches

Boldly signed n 1974 and dedicated in black felt tip pen to Jacqueline Brody, editor of the Print Collectors Newsletter from 1972 - 1996.

This poignant 1974 Robert Motherwell lithograph from his Galoises series was published as the cover of a limited edition exhibition catalogue for an exhibition of selected prints at the Jack Glenn Gallery in 1975. The lithographed catalogue was published in a stated edition of 4000, of which only 25 of them were hand signed and numbered; 3975 were not. This work is a rare signed Artist's Proof. Robert Motherwell hand signed it, along with a lovely ink inscription and dedication to Jacqueline Brody. And what makes this dedication and provenance extra special is that Jacqueline Brody of New York Editor, was an arts writer and editor of Print Collector's Newsletter from 1972 until the publication was sold in 1996. Her archives, which included correspondence with many artists including Robert Motherwell, were donated to the Archives of American Art at the Smithsonian institution.

Good vintage condition; some scuffing and agewear to the catalogue cover; signature page is fine
