An extremely rare 1969 Robert Bechtle lithograph - depicting the latest (1968) Oldsmobile model - a reflective metallic blue back end of a 1968 Ninety-six Oldsmobile slightly offset to the left parked on red cement next to green grass. This work was exhibited at the San Francisco Art Institute Centennial Exhibition, January 15-February 28, 1971, with original label (see photo). This print is rarely seen on the market as most other editions are in the permanent collection of major institutions like the Detroit Institute of Art or the Fine Art Museum of San Francisco.
Excerpt from 2020 Robert Bechtle obituary:
"...A photorealist painter who depicted suburban landscapes, parked cars and the way the California light slants on a stucco building at midday...Like his fellow photorealists Ralph Goings and Richard Estes, Mr. Bechtle used photographs as the basis of his paintings... But where other photorealists often rendered a flashily depicted Americana, Mr. Bechtle went for understatement and found unexpected beauty in the everyday...In 2005, the art critic Peter Schjeldahl of The New Yorker called him “the finest of the first-generation photorealists...” - Steven Kurutz, The New York Times
