Japanese-born Nobue Takahashi is one of the most talented and sought after animal artists and illustrators in New York. A keen observer of nature, she has worked for years as an illustrator for the Prospect Park Zoo, the Central Park Zoo and the Queens Zoo. Her artwork for the zoos typically depicts birds and species, which require a delicate hand, attention to intricate detail and brilliant colors - her signature style.  However, Nobue says, during the pandemic she appreciated the opportunity to portray an animal closer to home: her own beloved cat Poko.

Artist's Statement:

Vincent [my partner] was abandoned by his parents when he was a baby. He was very much left alone to survive all his life. Being isolated isn't as difficult for him as it is for other people - but having company has never been more important for his mental health. Poko, our cat, has helped him through this difficult time. 'Sweet Home' is where Poko is."
