This gouache on linen painting by noted Provincetown artist James Balla displays the influence of the Abstract Expressionist artists who frequented the same Massachusetts seaside town in the 1950's and 1960's. This work has been exhibited by the the Albert Merola Gallery in Provincetown (formerly known as the "UFO" or Universal Fine Objects Gallery), with whom he has enjoyed a longtime partnership.
James Balla (b. 1956, Norwalk, CT) studied at Parsons School of Design in New York. His most recent exhibition at Albert Merola Gallery, "James Balla, Revisitation: New Paintings" took place from June 8-28, 2012. He has also exhibited at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, Galerie Simonne Stern, New Orleans, Lamia Ink, NY, Housatonic Mus., Bridgeport, CT, Carrie Haddad Gallery, Hudson, NY, Takara Gallery, Houston, TX, Fort Point Art Gallery, Boston, MA, Paesaggio Gallery, Hartford, CT, Art Complex Museum, Duxbury. and many others.
