DescriptionPhoto Realist Sculptor Duane Hanson Autographed (hand signed) postmarked postcard, 1986
This is an unconditionally guaranteed auhentic autographed postmarked postcard from glued by the original owner on a makeshift board in a collage of a clipped vintage newspaper image and another card reproduction of a famous Hanson image.
The card itself appears to have an image that was stuck onto it, with the handwritten title American Sculptors: Duane Hanson, written by the collector, not tthe artist. There is time staining from the vintage glue the owner used (see photo), but it is otherwise in good vintage condition, protected by the plastic covering of the owner's makeshift homage to this important early photo realist.
Indeed, this card, boldly autographed in black ink and held within the photo collage has superb provenance, as it came from the Estate of Theodore S. Gerson, who founded the original Stamp-of-the-Month Club in 1974. His daughter Lillian explained, "My dad was a collector or everything - coins, stamps, posters, autographs..He started the Stamp of the Month Club, a marginally successful operation. But he parlayed that connection into all sorts of things. He sent letters and first day covers to famous people, world leaders such as Marshall Tito, King Hussein of Jordan, Robert Mugabe and asked for signatures. Many did as requested as he was a legitimate philaletic businessman...After he became a widower, he started getting vastly interested in contemporary art. He visited galleries, museums, studios, met art people and once again started amassing autographs." Among those he acquired was this wonderful autographed card by Duane Hanson.
This makeshift collage measures 8.5 by 12 inches in total. In good, used, authentic vintage condition, with scratching and sticky tape around the edges -- BUT the signature and squggly by Duane Hanson are 100% guaranteed authentic forever. Period.
This is an authentic autographed piece with superb provenance -- and how wonderful it was postmarked in 1986 with the 8 Cents Robert Indiana postage stamp!
A unique, one-of-a-kind original piece. Figurative realist sculptor Duane Hanson died in 1996 and authentic hand signed memoribilia and ephemera from him are extremely scarce and collectible.
