Catalogue in stiff wraps (1st Edition)
This extremely scarce catalogue was published in a limited edition of only 1500 on the occasion of the exhibition at Sadie Coles HQ, London, 13 March to 12 April 2003 and Inverleith House, Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh, Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh, 19 April to 25 May 2003.
It is 55 pages, in stiff wraps. It has 47 full page illustrations of Warhol's private drawings from 1955 when Bonwit Teller commissioned artists like Jasper Johns and Robert Rauschenberg to create displays in front windows on Fifth Avenue.
This volume measures 6 3/4 inches x 8.75 inches. Other than some shelfwear and age wear, it is in very good condition; NOT
The last end page expressly states that it was published in a limited edition of only 1500: it is rare, thus.
This gem of a volume is a MUST HAVE for serious Warhol fans, artists and students of he art of drawing and illustration, and a wonderful collection to your art library. Also, especially helpful for collectors and dealers of Warhol's early works on paper. But even if you never buy or sell one of these Warhol's, you should still know about this aspect of his oeuvre, and this was one of the best references on his private drawings from the 1950s. (And if you had this catalogue and studied these works, you would have known to stay away from a body of fake early works which claim to be from a prestigious family collection that consistently make the rounds of regional auction houses. Even blue chip dealers fall for them and they should not.)
