Alex Katz Frank O'Hara 2009, Aquatint and Photo Engraving. Hand Signed. Numbered. Framed by artist
Alex KatzThis beautiful aquatint by Alex Katz portrays the American writer, poet and art critic, Frank O'Hara - a close friend of many artists including Katz. It has superb provenance as it was donated directly by Alex Katz to a fundraiser for the renowned New York Studio School of Sculpture and Painting and is held in its original wood frame. O'Hara, who wrote many catalogue essays for Alex Katz exhibitions, said of the painter, "I think Katz is one of the most interesting painters in America. He has the stubbornness of the “great American tradition” in the dominating face of European influences-more in the spirit of Winslow Homer than of Prendergast, for example-and the ability to understand, or better, interpret an enthusiasm so it will work for his individual interests..."
