Bronze Flower , 1979

Signed and dated lower right and numbered lower left. Stamped "Designed Exclusively for Crown Zellerbach Corporation" on verso, with Berkeley Art Foundry copyright stamp.
Limited Edition
This beautiful, original signed, limited edition cast bronze flower plaque sculpture makes a distinctive and memorable gift! This work is accompanied by a copy of the original brochure describing Ruth Asawa's artistic process and how the work was cast.

Ruth Asawa was also actively involved in arts education. In 1979, the Crown Zellerbach Corporation of San Francisco, which had worked closely with her on neighborhood arts programs, commissioned Asawa to make this signed, limited edition beautiful bas-relief plaque which was cast by the Berkeley Arts Foundry. This work is accompanied by a copy of the booklet which describes how Asawa created this work -- by first "drawing" her original design onto a very thin sheet of copper foil, using a metal probe, then taken to Berkeley Art Foundry. The booklet describes in detail the long and labor intensive work of casting the piece using the Lost Wax (cire perdu) casting process. It continues to describe how each work was polished and given a special patina to enrich the bronze color and highlight the design's delicate details. It even gives suggestions on how to display this magnificent piece! Each piece has natural variations in the bronze hue, with natural gradations and oxidation over time, part of the material.

This work can be mounted, framed and hung, or displayed in a presentation box or stand.
