This is a shrewd saw-cut nickel plated aluminum jigsaw sculpture by Mark di Suvero. This piece can be interlocked in multiple formations in order to create a truly three-dimensional arrangement. The flexibility in its configuration makes it a wonderful example of Abstract Expressionist sculpture. All of these works, including this one, have slight scratching on surface due to soft plating and natural use, but overall in very good condition.
Moon Dog’ is a shrewd and clever five-piece abstract expressionist sculpture of nickel-plated aluminum by Mark di Suvero. Like a puzzle, this piece can be assembled in multiple configurations, allowing for a sense of multi-dimensionality the artist excels in with his work. Interlocking forms can be twisted around in endless arrangements, pushing the boundaries of traditionally conceived sculpture and truly exemplifying di Suvero’s pursuit of abstract expressionism in a three dimensional form. The listed dimensions represent the work as it looks fit together. The piece is in very good condition, with minor surface rubs and abrasions.

Known for his abstract expressionist and large scale sculptures, American artist Mark di Suvero (b. 1933), was considered a pioneer in the medium, specifically with steel and crane constructions. As one of the most influential artists in contemporary sculpture, di Suvero creates work heavily grounded in ideas of motion, time, and space, drawing inspiration from Alexander Calder’s hanging ‘Mobile’ constructions. He has received numerous awards over the course of his career including the Nation Medal of Arts, the International Sculpture Center Lifetime Achievement Award, and the Heinz Award for Arts and Humanities. Di Suvero has exhibited at numerous venues internationally including Le Jardin de Tuileries and Les Esplanades des Invalides (Paris, France), Millennium Park (Chicago, IL), Hiroshima Museum of Contemporary Art (Hiroshima, Japan), and the Whitney Museum of American Art (New York, NY), among others.
